Tartan Group does media shows each year to pitch our clients to writers from all over the world. We decided to move from a printed client pitch document to a website where we could tell our stories based on the theme the writer works on rather than a linear perspective that a printed brochure would give us.
We knew we wanted to make the site highly graphical and also be able to use a touchscreen so we could jump between story themes on the fly.
I am pretty good on wordpress but didn’t want to take this on myself as I knew we needed a more complex theme with multiple plugins and widgets. Gil helped us choose a theme, and helped us choose a layout using a combinations of themes that matched our vision of what we need to do.
More importantly though, he trained us on populating the site with our content and images. Brian and I were both so happy to have a patient voice on the end of the phone who can walk us through making changes in a manner that we can understand. He made us feel confident.

One of Gil Namur’s clients, Heather Hess, who runs an on-line travel site for Canadians traveling to Mexico, recommended Gil’s services. I own a home in Mexico, which I advertise on the web, which is how Heather found me. My web site was quite static and lacked any sort of SEO. It was a website badly in need of a makeover.
Heather and I got to talking on Skype, and she told me about Gil, in the most positive terms, so I contacted Gil and signed on for his ‘On Line Soon‘ $500 special.
Within three weeks, Gil and I had constructed a completely new WordPress-based site, working principally via Skype. In essence, Gil conducted a Skype-based WordPress tutorial, guiding me through the pitfalls (and pratfalls) of WordPress, at which he is an absolute master.
In many instances, when the workings of WordPress were beyond my abilities, Gil made the necessary changes, additions, tweaks, etc., while I provided the content. Sometimes Gil would take a raw concept and “noodle it” (Gil’s term) for a day or so, usually with great outcomes.
Lots of people can master an application, but not everyone can teach others. Gil is a superb teacher: always patient, often quite humorous, and always punctual. He understood my desires for design details even when I had trouble articulating them to him. He assigned homework I was capable of doing, based on my nascent WordPress skills, (which are still rudimentary).
I think Gil is undercharging for his skills and experience: what I got was worth his un-discounted starting price of $750, and an absolute bargain at $500. I recommend Gil without reservation.

I was on a tight schedule in the final editing and publishing phase of my first novel with a serious website crisis on my hands when Gil came to the rescue. I had hired someone else not suitable to the task, was in a panic, and past my deadline. Gil quite literally designed the site in front of my eyes making live changes while on Skype with me as we refined the details. He is an absolute joy to work with, very efficient, and completely reliable. He will also make sure you are fully SEO aware and trained on how to put up your content quickly.
But be careful what you ask for. When testing out the contact form in the “How can I help” field, I entered that I wanted an elf and Gil sent me a picture of Will Ferrell in green tights and a pom-pom. LOL. Not quite what I had in mind but just the laugh I needed to get me through the hectic day.

I was at my wit’s end when I found Gil. I had hired 3 techs from India and 1 from Mexico. None of them made much progress – probably because they hardly ever showed up on Skype for our appointments. I headed to the beach feeling let down, disillusioned, frustrated and discouraged. The constant motion of the ocean gave me a sudden brainwave – Used Victoria and Craigslist! I rushed home and frantically searched for help! I dialed Gil’s phone number and couldn’t believe my luck. I had found a web developer in the same time zone & same town who spoke the same language as me – all very positive attributes! Gil immediately understood my frustration and within hours had my site up and running.
To quote Gil: “All you have to do from now on is add content – may I repeat that – content!” That statement is music to my ears! I highly recommend you work with Gil Namur at Synaptic Systems – especially if you are feeling overwhelmed at the thought of building your own website and lack the creative insight to make it look professional and the technical expertise to ‘make it happen’.
I never thought I would say this – especially after I read the ‘WordPress for Dummies’ manual (which put me in a state of absolute inertia) – but I thoroughly enjoyed working with Gil to build our website.
